Pierce County

Pierce County is a county in the U.S. state of Washington. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 795,225, making it the second-most populous county in Washington behind King County. The county seat and largest city is Tacoma.  Tacoma is the second-largest city in the Puget Sound area and the third largest in the state. Tacoma also serves as the center of business activity for the South Sound region, which has a population of around 1 million people.  The Port of Tacoma, a center of international trade on the Pacific Coast and Washington State's largest port.  Tacoma-Pierce County has been named one of the most livable areas in the United States.  In 2006, Tacoma was listed as one of the "most walkable" cities in the country.  That same year, the women's magazine Self named Tacoma the "Most Sexually Healthy City" in the United States.  Joint Base Lewis-McChord is a training and mobilization center for all services and is the only Army power-projection base west of the Rocky Mountains. Its geographic location provides rapid access to the deep water ports of Tacoma, Olympia and Seattle for deploying equipment.
